Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the free WiFi hotspot installation at the ITO bus stop in Delhi on Thursday. 109 free WiFi hotspots have been installed in Delhi, marking the launch of the scheme in the city. PWD Minister Shri Satyendra Jain was also present at the event. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia also marked the launch of the scheme at Vishwavidyalaya and congratulated the people of Delhi and Delhi University students for the installation of free WiFi.
Addressing the audience, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “I am very happy to announce the initiation of free WiFi installation in Delhi. 11000 WiFi hotspots are to be installed across Delhi, 4000 hotspots will be installed at bus stops and 7000 hotspots will be installed at various market places and other RWA locations. Each hotspot will cover a radius of 80 meters. 6100 hotspots have a speed of 200 Mbps and 4900 hotspots have a speed of 50 Mbps. This is the first government in the history of India to have fulfilled all the promises made in its manifesto during the previous elections. This was the last promise of the manifesto which has been fulfilled. 109 WiFi hotspots will begin by the evening, and after the completion of the installation of the initial 100 hotspots, 500 hotspots will be installed every week. The entire installation will be completed within six months. This installation is happening under the first phase. Further installation of more hotspot connections across the remaining areas of the city will be determined on the basis of the experience and the success of these 11000 hotspot connections. Along with the operation of the free bus ride scheme for women, the free WiFi hotspot installation will also be a huge advantage for the people of Delhi.”

Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal said that his government is the first government in Delhi to have fulfilled all the key poll promises of the election manifesto. “Providing free Wi-Fi connection to the people is the last promise of our manifesto, and I believe this is the first and the only government in Delhi to have fulfilled all the promises it has made in the manifesto,” added the CM.
Delhi PWD Minister Shri Satyendra Jain said, “The last promise of the manifesto of the Delhi government has been fulfilled with the launch of the installation of WiFi hotspots today. Hon’ble Chief Minister is launching WiFi hotspots at various locations in Delhi. I want to congratulate the Delhi cabinet and the people of Delhi for the initiation of such a significant project in the city.”
*7000 hotspots to be installed across the city and 4000 hotspots on bus stands*
The Chief Minister said, “Free Wi-Fi and internet connection will help students to a huge extent and will be beneficial in the sectors of health and education. The amount of data and information available on the internet today will be a huge advantage to all the sectors. 4000 hotspots will be installed on all the bus stands in Delhi and 7000 hotspots will be installed in the market, park, and RWAs. 100 hotspots each will be installed in every assembly”
*Every user will be given a free data limit of 15 GB data per month, with a data limit of 1.5 GB data per day*
Briefing the media about the details of the Wi-Fi installations, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “The people of Delhi will be able to locate a Wi-Fi connection after every 500 meters in the city, with the hotspot connections supporting a radius of 100 meters. Every user will be given a free data limit of 15 GB data per month, with a data limit of 1.5 GB data per day. On an average, the maximum speed of the connection of the data will be 200 Mbps, but the estimated speed will be between 100-150 Mbps.” Each hotspot will be able to support 150-200 users simultaneously, which amounts to around 22 lakh users simultaneously accessing the internet across the city. An app has also been created for this purpose, which will require the users to fill their KYC details and use the OTPs received on their phones to access the hotspot connections.
*Wi-Fi connections will not be disconnected on change of locations*
The Wi-Fi connections will not get disconnected if a user enters into one hotspot zone into another, and the connection will be automatically regained. Further installation of more hotspot connections across the remaining areas of the city will be determined on the basis of the experience and the success of these 11000 hotspot connections.
*CCTV Cameras to be integrated with the Wi-Fi hotspot connections*
The Delhi government has devised a plan to integrate the CCTV cameras with the Wi-Fi hotspots installed in the city, and the responsibility of the maintenance of the equipment is with the Delhi government.
