The National Capital Delhi is geared up to celebrate the Independence Week under the guidance of the Lt. Governor, Delhi. Various activities have been organized by the districts of Revenue Department, Government of Delhi in coordination with civic bodies, I&FC, DHS, Education, PWD, Environment, Police, Civil Defence, DDMA, NYKS, Mission Convergence etc. for each day of the week.
The cleanliness and sanitation drives have been initiated today in all revenue districts. The special drives will continue for the whole week to keep the surroundings neat and clean. East and North East districts carried out cleanliness drive. The Officers, officials and sanitation staff actively participated in this cleanliness drive. During the course of cleanliness drive, complete cleanliness of entire office complexes, flower pots has been carried out. Spray has also spread over with the purpose to prevent breeding of bacteria and mosquitoes. New Delhi district also launched cleanliness drive in SRs, BDOs, SDMs, ADM and DM office premises and surrounding areas.
Shahdara District also celebrated Independence week in organizing cleanliness drive starting from DC office complex, Nand Nagri. The drive was successful resulting into creating a hygienic environment.
South and South East districts of Revenue Department hae organized a number of events to celebrate the Independence Week. The district has organized race competition in Okhla Govt. Colony in which the children participated in three different age groups. These children were also educated regarding their duties and spirit of independence and freedom. Another Race was organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mehrauli. Around 100 children participated in the race with full enthusiasm. Gifts such as Geometry Box, Thermos & Sports Shoes were distributed amongst the winning candidates.
10 rallies were organized by GRC (Gender Resource Centres) for spreading awareness in the area to mobilise people on the theme of Independence Day and to make them aware of their duties and rights. The rallies were organized at Hari Nagar Extn. Part-III, Near A.S Jaitpur, D Block and A pocket , Madanpur Khadar, Batla House, Jamia Nagar, Beri Bagh Aali Vihar Aali Village, Jasola Village, Lalkuan, Tanki Road, Meethapur, Govindpuri ,Kalka Ji, Khizrabad Village and Kotla Mubarakpur Village. Around 100 persons participated in each rally. Another rally was arranged at Nehru Yuva Kendra in Jaitpur village where around 50 persons participated in the rally. Nukkad Natak on the theme of Azadi Ek Nai Soch Ki was organised at Lav-kush chowk, Jaitpur, New Delhi by the NGO Sambhawana Natya Manch to create awareness amongst public about riddance from intoxication of all kinds; shunning corruption & communalism; Living in filth free environment; the advantages of tree plantations for enriching environment.
North District has launched “spirit of freedom”-the focus was involving citizen, civil societies and other agencies including cleanliness habit in and around the surroundings. The RWAs were involved in the cleanliness drive & afforestation in the open area near the park and Barat Ghar in their localities. The RWA members and the residents of the area has also taken the pledge for stopping the Female Foeticide. Nukkad Natak was also presented by female participant on Female Foeticide. As part of the celebrations, West District has planted about 150 sapplings at the park opposite to its DM Office.
