The Mayors of all the three Municipal Corporations: Yogendra Chandolia of North, Meenakshi of East and Khushi Ram of South Delhi alongwith Leader of the House of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, today met the honorable Lt. Governor of Delhi Najib Jung. They urged that the NCT Govt. of Delhi should urge the honorable High Court that the E-rickshaws be allowed to ply as it is till the policy is framed. The Corporations be allowed to regulate as other rickshaws are regulated till the new policy is framed and comes into force. Arya said that the relief be extended as this has emerged as an medium of employment for those who are plying these E-rickshaws and their families are dependent on them. Hence, a relief needs to be extended to these rickshaw drivers till the policy is framed, after that these can be regulated as per the new policy is framed. They also requested that the public dealing timings of the offices which will be issuing licenses/registering E- rickshaws should be extended by 3-4 hours to facilitate the rickshaw drivers.
The Lt. Governor gave a patient hearing and also agreed to the proposal. He assured that the government will consider to it seriously.
