Fugitive Joginder Kumar, convicted in a murder case of 1997 of PS Rajouri Garden arrested

NEW DELHI : A team of South-Western Range of Special Cell, led by Insp. Atul Tyagi and Dalip Kumar under the supervision of Sh. Sanjay Dutt, ACP has arrested a fugitive and rewarded criminal Joginder Kumar (Aged: 40 years) R/o. Raghubir Nagar, New Delhi. A cash reward of Rs 20,000/- was declared for his arrest by the Delhi Police in the famous murder case of PS Rajouri Garden, registered vide FIR No. 942/1997, dated 07.11.97, u/s 302/307/34-IPC, PS Rajouri Garden, Delhi.

On 07.11.1997, four assailants armed with knives had attacked Devender r/o Raghubir Nagar, Delhi and his father, outside his house. In the fight Devender was stabbed multiple times and thus received life threatening injuries. Both the victims were rushed to nearby hospital, where Devender succumbed to his injuries died during the treatment. In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 942/1997, dt. 07.11.97, u/s 302/307/34-IPC, PS Rajouri Garden, Delhi was registered. During investigation Joginder Kumar alongwith his three other associates Vijay, Surjeet and Shamim, all r/o Raghubir Nagar, Delhi were arrested. On completion of the trial of the case, the Trial court of ASJ, Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi convicted all the four accused persons to Life imprisonment vide order dated 22.01.2001. All the accused persons filed appeal in the High Court against their conviction and during their appeal, the accused persons were granted bail from the Hon’ble High Court. However, the High Court has dismissed their appeal on 16.09.2009. The accused persons did not surrender and were declared Proclaimed Offender by the court on 01.06.2010. Subsequently, the Joginder Kumar filed an appeal in the Hon’ble Supreme Court, but the same was also dismissed by the Hon’ble Apex court vide orders dated 21.09.2017. Then also Joginder Kumar did not surrendered in jail. Subsequently a reward of Rs. Rs. 20,000/- each offender i.e Joginder Kumar, Vijay, Surjeet and Shamim was declared by the Delhi Police. A team of Special Cell was specifically tasked to trace absconding and rewarded criminals.
