MAIDS organizes Dental Health Utsav from 5th to 8th December’2019

Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences is a premier institute providing advanced dental services run by the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi. The Institute has today emerged as a centre of national and global excellence in the field of dental education, patient care and research and it is still striving to excel and extend the dental care services to serve the patients better. MAIDS cater to more than 3 Lakh patients annually serving patients from difficult and underserved areas of Delhi.
Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS) is organizing a Dental Health Utsav ‘Delhi Smiles – 2019′ from 5th to 8th December 2019 in its campus, with an aim to create a much-needed awareness for dental healthcare. The Utsav deliberates on varied issues related to oral health. The five day long Utsav will comprise of Free Dental Check up, dental health awareness through novel exhibits and lectures. The theme of this year’s event is “Prakrati ke rang, Muskan ke sang” highlighting the role of environment in health and disease. There were many innovative exhibits and demonstrations open for public display.
This year’s Dental Health Utsav “Delhi Smiles” was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, GNCT of Delhi, Sh. Satyendar Jain, presided by Principal Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, GNCT of Delhi, Shri. Sanjeev Khirwar and other eminent personalities on dais Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Dr.Sushil Kumar, Dean MAMC, Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Talwar, Director-Principal, Dr.Tulika Tripathy, Organizing Chairperson and Dr.Gyanendra Kumar, Organising Secretary at 11.30 am on 5th December 2019 in the MAIDS premises.
Addressing the august gathering Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Talwar, Director-Principal of the Institute said that MAIDS has successfully completed more than three and half decades of holistic dental health services to the people of Delhi. The journey of the Institute has been painstaking but the commitment and dedication of the Faculty, Staff and Students has seen the Institute blossom into a world class Institute. The Institute has been ranked No.1 by Outlook, The Week and India Today for the last 8 years and received prestigious awards like FICCI Operational excellence awards in Public Hospitals and for Social Impact.
Dr.Talwar emphasized that many oral diseases are related to our lifestyles. They are learnt through social interaction with parents, peer groups, friends and siblings and through school and mass media and health requires the promotion of healthy lifestyle.
Prof.Talwar said the Phase II building of the institute is now completed and would be open shortly next year providing care for more teeth and strength to the already existing dental facility. Soon this new facility would augment the delivery of services and bring dental services closer to the people of Delhi without undergoing financial hardships and delays.
Hon’ble Secretary Health and Family Welfare Shri. Sanjeev Khirwar emphasized that oral healthis essential in overall health. A lot of attention is given to Health in general but oral health is overlooked. In developed countries a lot of priority is given to oral health. There is an urgent need for increasing oral health awareness among all age groups. The Dental Health Utsav is long time and successful initiative of MAIDS, the Institute should also organize multiple camps during the event with the help of faculty in different underserved areas of Delhi.
Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, GNCT of Delhi, Sh. Satyendar Jain, in his speech, commended the MAIDS for ensuring quality in dental care services. He said that Smile is a asset of an individual which has to be used more often, and if it has to be used more often then they need to be maintained and if they have to be maintained then they need to be taken care of. Hence Oral health is very important for overall health. He also emphasize that to save the environment we need to contribute in “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” Concept. He highlighted as a Health Minister we need to understand the role of nutritional deficiencies in oral health and diseases. He further said that mouth is mirror of the body.
Dentistry as a science has made a lot of progress and the Institute has kept abreast with all developments with state of the art facilities. He said that the Institute is an asset not only for Delhi but also for the nation, ranked No.1 from last 8 years by independent agencies. He said MAIDS has made its name not only in the country but also across the world. During his visit to United Kingdom, there was praise of MAIDS. He emphasized that autonomous hospitals should focus on delivering only quality health care services and not bother much about the work behind it. He also said the Institute should focus on creating further awareness in oral health so that more and more people utilize dental services. He said that the Mobile Dental Clinic services have been a boon for the people of Delhi. These are vital services that reach out to the needy in far flung and rural parts of Delhi. On this occasion Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, GNCT of Delhi, Sh. Satyendar Jain released the “Annual Year Book” of MAIDS which is compilation of achievements by the Institution in the last year.
Dr.Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, said MAIDS has reached the pinnacle of patient care and dental education only due to dedication of faculty, staff and students. We will still continue to serve and expand the horizon of dentistry by research and development.
The Free Dental health Check up was also inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family
Welfare, GNCT of Delhi, Sh. Satyendar Jain and Sh. Khirwar, IAS, Secretary, Health and Family
welfare GNCT of Delhi and other eminent dignitaries. During the day more than 1000 patients
registered for dental check up and availed the services. The Dental health exhibition had many exhibits
and working models that were put to display. All age groups of patients were enthralled by the colorful
and interactive exhibits.
The Guest Lectures scheduled on 5th and 6th by Dr.Rajinder Singh, “Waterman of India”and
workshop on self defense training by Delhi Police.
The Institute has contributed in not only serving the people of Delhi with the most advanced as well as quality dental care services for more than 35 years it has continued its leadership role in consistently providing accessible, affordable and comprehensive oral health care services to all with focus on underprivileged.
The Dental Health Utsav symbolizes an event with a culmination of various aspects of public health significance. It is a platform that brings together Community awareness through mass education along with comprehensive dental check up and an array of cultural events.
