NORTH DMC MAY DEVELOP PARKS BY LEASING OUT SPACE FOR KIOSK

Mayor of North Delhi, Ms. Preety Agarwal asked the Commissioner, North DMC, Mr. Madhup Vyas to examine the feasibility of adopting Gujarat Model of maintaining parks by leasing out some corner part of a park for kiosk measuring approximate 12’ x 12’ for daily use items i.e. grocery/ vegetables/ fruits / milk/ bread etc.

She said that the Corporation is going through financial crunch and number of Mallis is less than the number required, yet the environment is of utmost importance for us. Hence, we need to explore such models to work within the available resources. Parks are most important for citizens from health point of view as these serve as an oxygen chamber and a place for fitness.

Mayor, Ms. Agarwal gave the example of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation where this model is in practice and the Corporation is getting revenue from this. She said the revenue earned from leasing out the space would be exclusively used for improvement in parks only if a policy is chalked out. She further said it is also gathered that DDA has also allowed CGHS to allow such small kiosks for daily need items in interest of the citizens.

She asked that a proper policy keeping in mind the minimum size of the park and its location importance wise be framed and put-up before the House for consideration with details.
