The Hon’ble High Court of Delhi in WPC No. 5023/2015 in the matter of Paardarshita Public Welfare Foundation (NGO) Vs Commissioner SDMC & Ors. has directed to clear traffic congestion in Karol Bagh area, Vikas Marg/ Lakshmi Nagar area and Green Park area and to take suitable enforcement action(s) towards clearing encroachments on the roads in terms of the multiple parking are taken with due publicity.
In view of Hon’ble Court’s directions the Delhi Traffic Police shall be initiating action against improper/obstructively/multiple-lane parking under section 122/177 M.V. Act read with section 179 (1) of M.V. Act 1988 attracting a penalty of Rs. 100/- plus Rs. 500/- (total Rs. 600) excluding towing charges, so as to ensure smooth flow of traffic in these areas. Vehicles found illegally/ unauthorisedly parked in these areas shall be towed away and prosecuted. Wheel clamps shall also be used for prosecuting such vehicles. Special enforcement teams of traffic policemen shall also patrol these areas and prosecute violators on the spot. In addition, teams of traffic policemen shall also photograph the violations and issue violation notices to the motorists at their registered addresses.
